Our Story

On the 9th of November 2013, Medical Students from across the country came together for the inaugural National Medical Student Summit. This summit led to the launch and establishment of the Association of Medical Students, Ireland (AMSI). For the first time since the late 19th century, Irish medical students have an organisation that can facilitate dialogue at a national and international level.

Our Aims

  1. Increase collaboration between medical schools

  2. Represent the views of medical students on a national and international level

  3. Promote medical student wellness

  4. Create a forum where students can engage with a wide variety of health, scientific and educational issues and promote an atmosphere of participation

  5. Be the National Member Organisation for Ireland to the IFMSA and be an active participant in the Standing Committees of the IFMSA.

Our Vision

Our Vision is to provide a platform for medical student engagement in Ireland locally, nationally and internationally. This engagement can come in many forms - through our Standing Committees, national and local events, research projects, advocacy efforts and international clinical exchanges. Our membership of IFMSA is a vital component of what AMSI is all about and therefore our drive for Full Membership in August 2025 is of utmost importance to all AMSI members

Our Strategy

Our National Strategy is currently under construction, involving several members of the AMSI Executive Board. Contained within this strategy is also our Financial Strategy, something which is crucial to the sustainability of AMSI long into the future.
