Inez Murray

I am a fourth-year medical student at Queen’s University Belfast with a strong interest in global health. I recently completed an MSc in Global Health at Maastricht University, where I also studied elective modules in human rights and health security at Thammasat University in Bangkok. My master’s thesis, undertaken with the Institute of Global Surgery at RCSI, focused on surgical workforce planning in Sub-Saharan Africa. I have conducted research at the Joslin Diabetes Centre, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, and published work on cancer epidemiology in Northern Ireland. A former BMJ Clegg Scholar, I also contribute to the BMJ Student “Sharp Scratch” podcast. Within medical school, I have served as Co-Lead of the Sustainable Healthcare Development Group and Secretary for both the Scrubs Surgical Society and the Students Working Overseas Trust. Beyond medicine, I am passionate about youth-led advocacy, peacebuilding, and mental health. I volunteer with Crisis Café, offering mental health support for young people, where I now serve as Chair of the Board of Directors. I also work with the Shared Island Youth Forum, a cross-border initiative promoting collaboration across Ireland. I look forward to helping rebuild AMSI at QUB and working with medical students nationwide.

Disha Suresh

I’m a fourth-year medical student at Queen’s University Belfast with a keen interest in emergency medicine. I’m drawn to its fast-paced, unpredictable nature, where teamwork, adaptability, and quick decision-making can make an immediate difference in patients’ lives. I’m passionate about AMSI because I believe in the power of collaboration and a collective student voice in medicine. AMSI connects medical students across Ireland to share ideas and advocate for progress in healthcare education and policy. I’m particularly inspired by its focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and leadership development — values that shape compassionate and confident future doctors. Outside of academics, I serve as Director of the 42nd Students Working Overseas Trust (SWOT) Fashion Show, one of Northern Ireland’s largest student-led charitable events. Leading a team of over 100 students to raise funds for healthcare initiatives in low-resource settings has been an incredible experience blending creativity, leadership, and community impact. In 2024, I was selected for the Washington Ireland Program, completing a placement in the U.S. House of Representatives. The experience strengthened my belief in empathy, service, and collaboration — principles I continue to bring to both my medical training and my work with AMSI
